Brian J Jones
Born on the Kent coast 1945, ships and the sea have always been a great influence in Brian’s life.
Whilst pursuing a successful career in teaching he continued to paint and generated a keen interest in his work, selling to galleries and private collectors. In the late 90’s he decided it was time to devote all his time to marine painting and moved to south east Cornwall wear he now has his own studio and enjoys the influence of the Cornish coast and all it’s maritime connections.
Painting in oils, he is mostly influenced by the grace and beauty of the classic yachts of the 1920’s and 1930’s and has a great love of all traditional craft be they ships of Nelsons navy, Arab Dhows or craft that worked the River Thames in it’s heyday. All his work conveys an atmosphere of accuracy and movement and a feeling of what it was like to be there at the time.
He has undertaken commissions for publication in limited edition books on yachting heritage, as well as private commissions in the USA and Europe. He is a regular exhibitor with The Royal Society of Marine Artist’s at the Mall Galleries London, and was the winner of the Classic Boat Magazine prize at the 2013 RSMA exhibition London.
